Nature's Herbs Psyllium Husk - 100 Caps
Psyllium husk is derived from the seed of Psyllium (Plantago ovata). Besides Plantago ovata, psyllium is also known as Ispaghula and Isapgol. Psyllium husk has a long history of use in traditional and herbal medicine. Psyllium has been used in traditional medicine in the US, Europe, India, and China. Some of the uses of psyllium in traditional medicine are as laxative, emollient, demulcent, and diuretic.
Psyllium husk is most often used as a bulk-fiber laxative, in foods or in various fiber supplements. Psyllium is high in both fiber and mucilage. The laxative properties of psyllium are due to the swelling of the husk when it comes in contact with water. Traditionally, psyllium husk is used as a gentle bulk-forming laxative for constipation.
Soluble fiber from psyllium husk forms a gel when mixed with liquid. Recently, studies have shown that psyllium husk is effective in lowering total cholesterol and may reduce the risk of heart disease.
