Amino Acids are the building blocks of protein and muscle tissue. Twenty-one amino acids are needed to build the various proteins used in the growth, repair, and maintenance of body tissues. They are classified as essential, conditionally essential, or non-essential.
Essential Amino Acids can not be manufactured by our bodies so they must be obtained through our diet or supplements. They include: Isloleucine, Leucine, Lysine, Methionine, Phenylalanine, Threonine, Tryptophan, and Valine.
Our bodies function sub-optimally without Conditionally Essential Amino Acids. They include: Arginine, Cystine, Histidine, Glutamine, Proline, and Tyrosine.
Non-essential Amino Acids can be synthesized by the body from other amino acids. They include: Alanine, Aspartic Acid, Glycine, and Serine.
Branch Chained Amino Acids (BCAAs) are an integral part of muscle metabolism and are the first aminos sacrificed during muscle catabolism. They include: Isoleucine, Leucine, and Valine.
